I think it's like how Star Trek is sci-fi --not sci-fi/fantasy-- because it doesn't have magic (ignore all the psychics, they're PSYCHICS not MAGICIANS, it's totally different!)
Which is to say, it's less about content (things that are blatantly magic), but the tone of how they deal with them.

As a side note, I'm not going to try and get "caught up" at this point. By my count, I've made 13 illustrations in 16 days so far, and I'm happen enough with that. We'll see how many I do over the next two weeks.

Having read the book and seen the play, I'm gonna come out and say that if the Cowardly Lion has a speaking role, it wasn't memorable. The only reason he's there is 'cause everyone would be confused if Dorothy didn't have her harem with her.
