begging and pleading that this is an overly-committed to bit, or alternatively: for the love of god, read a single book about nazi germany and how every German who 'did atrocities because it let them live at a higher standard' were still, in fact, evil Nazis who deserved their fates or worse

Very possible thats a big component here, i agree, tho this is def a weirdly specific instance to focus on and also seemingly imagining details that just did not happen, which...implies they're getting it from somewhere

Yeah, people expect a sort of Code Duello in war when 1) that never existed even back in the day of pike and shot or before and 2) the industrial world meant that focusing on cold efficiency was the only priority and subsequent *specific* agreements at the Hague and Geneva Conventions were *needed*

The Kriegsmarine: hahah we built this huge ship with big guns, we're gonna just stomp everything in the Atlantic forever

The humble biplane pilot: Woe, Swordfish be upon ye

[Citation fucking needed] because seriously where are you pulling this out of because theres no source at all saying what you're saying that I can find, what kind of Discords or 4chan threads are you lurking in to imagine this

[It took me eons to track down any POSSIBLE source for OP's delusion, which really REALLY makes me wonder where they themselves got it from...]

I almost admire the ability to generate ENTIRELY UNHEARD OF WWII revisionism

Everyone, let's make up more insane stuff about WWII: the American use of pineapple grenades was a war crime because Germans only knew of pineapple as a rare treat and would pick up the grenades expecting tropical fruit

"Let's hunt some fucking orc." really just fills in the implied adjective from the original line read

Also Nazi revisionism peeves me off personally and so I like to hit it with a full broadside of "this is wrong and here's why"
December 28, 2025 at 4:30 AM
I like to at least ID the source of bullshit counternarratives about Nazi stuff where I can to figure out 'is this some new attack line to have to keep an eye out for in the world of historical revisionism' or 'did someone just make a very stupid tiktok based on something they heard sixth-hand' tbf

The article [excerpting a book] also notes/quotes other folks who overwhelmingly say "yeah we didn't see shit indicating surrender, we kept WAITING for it, but that Nazi ensign kept flying so we kept shooting, that's how that works" so...yeah, apologies for the long thread folks but this is bogus

[Update: found a very tenuous third-hand source for ...what might've devolved into this, and uh in addition to being unreliable, it does not support this at all.]

always wondered." and "thought I saw folks jumping overboard and maybe a black flag", wherein even the person concedes that they had no idea for certain what they saw, and even then there was no indication it was the ship trying to surrender as much as one or two guys going "fuck this", etc.
