A spiral galaxy, tilted away so that it is seen mostly from the edge. The disc of the galaxy glows blue from its centre, due to younger stars in the spiral arms. There are large and small patches of gas, glowing in red and pink colours, where new stars are forming. Webs of dark dust are spread over the disc. The glow of the disc fades into a dark background, with a couple of stars.

🛰️ Welcome to Kourou, #Galileo!

After crossing the Atlantic Ocean, two Galileo satellites have safely arrived in Kourou in preparation for their upcoming launch on Ariane 6 #VA266.

ESA, EUSPA and OHB SE teams are on site to prepare for the next launch from Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana.
After crossing the Atlantic Ocean by air, two Galileo satellites have safely arrived in Kourou and are unloaded from their transport aircraft in preparation for their upcoming launch. Before the Galileo satellites can be launched into space, they are transported to Europe's Spaceport for checks and integration on to the Ariane 6 rocket.

📷This is the Branco River in Brazil, as seen by #IRIDE HEO constellation. The near-infrared channel used to process this image helps us better distinguish between vegetated and areas where vegetation has been cleared, such as on the left of the image. 🧪🌏

With final tests complete, ESA's HydroGNSS mission is set for launch this month. Part of the FutureEO programme, this Scout mission will use GNSS reflectometry to measure climate variables to improve understanding of Earth’s water cycle 🧪🌏

The focus of the image is a portion of LDN 1641, an interstellar nebula in the constellation of Orion. In this view, a deep-black background is sprinkled with a multitude of dots (stars) of different sizes and shades of bright white. Across the sea of stars, a web of fuzzy tendrils and ribbons in varying shades of orange and brown rises from the bottom of the image towards the top-right like thin coils of smoke.

The Sentinel-1 mission – which provides radar vision for the Copernicus Earth observation programme – has a new addition to its family of satellites, with the arrival in orbit of Sentinel-1D, the last of the groundbreaking first generation. The launch took place at 22:02 CET (18:02 local time), on Tuesday, 4 November, on board an Ariane 6 launcher from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana.

📷 What lies at the heart of this unusual-looking spiral galaxy? This NASA/ESA #Hubble Space Telescope image shows galaxy NGC 4102, home to what astronomers call an 'active galactic nucleus' 🧪🔭
Spiral galaxy NGC 4102. The inner region immediately around the bright centre is golden in colour. A gap separates this region from a bright ring, itself surrounded by a glowing halo. Strands of dark brown dust swirl around the centre and the outer ring, joined in one spot by a curved arm. This image captured by Copernicus Sentinel-3 on 26 October 2025 shows the ‘brightness temperature’ at the top of Hurricane Melissa as it moves through the Caribbean Sea towards Jamaica, where it is expected to make landfall. Classified as a Category 5 storm by the US-based National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Melissa is the world’s strongest storm so far this year. The brightness temperature of the clouds at the top of the storm, high above the ocean, range from about –75°C near the eye of the storm to about –25°C at the edges. The temperature of the surrounding ocean is much warmer, reaching as high as 25°C. This image has been overlaid with the landmasses below and is a mosaic of two different swaths, hence the visible diagonal line that crosses the storm.

A spiral galaxy, seen face-on, fills the view. Swirling, patchy and broken spiral arms surround a softly glowing centre. The arms are filled with blue, speckled patches showing star clusters, shining pink and red dots where young stars are lighting up gas clouds, and a web of thin, dark red dust lanes. The glow of the galaxy’s arms extends out into the dark background. Individual tiny stars appear throughout.

The various colours in the image reflect this diverse ecosystem, with dark green forests opening into flooded peatlands, appearing in shades of brown and red. Near the centre of the image, we can see where the smaller Batanga River flows into Likouala-aux-Herbes. Northwest of this confluence is Epena, a village of about 5000 people and the district’s administrative capital, visible on the riverbank as a lighter, structured area within the surrounding green vegetation.
