21. Babel by RF Kuang
i was completely emotionally devastated by this book and did in fact just sit and stare for a while when I finished. I’ve seen a LOT of conflicting opinions on this book so I’m going to try to explain why I loved it and why others might not!

20. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
I cannot believe I hadn’t read this until now! this book is possibly the height of gothic drama— the characters are so passionate, the atmosphere is alternating between idyllic and spooky, themes of obsession and isolation…

19. Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo
(I totally forgot to post this one when i finished it) i loved this book for all the same reasons i loved the first in the series. it does lose a bit of the atmospheric mystery, being a sequel, but it gains a bit of speed in the romance department…

18. Dracula by Bram Stoker
this was absolutely delightful!! all that I knew of this book was the first ~15% with Jonathan and Dracula in the castle. I love that we get a whole cast of funny, kind, and brave characters along the way!!

17. Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
yall when i tell you i LOVED this book… this will be a long thread. Ninth House has all the makings of a stereotypical romantasy (despite being billed as dark academia) but avoids falling into any of the pitfalls of the genre.

16. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
much like Circe, I have a controversial take here 🫣 I did not love this book. I guess Miller’s style is just not for me. I do like that she can be very poetic and descriptive. what I didn’t like are the characters…

15. The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley
ngl I read this half because of graham gore (the terror 2018 has a grip on me) and it turned out to be such a fascinating and cute read! it’s a bit genre bending, which I like. some call it litfic, sci-fi, there’s a historical element…
