We absolutely love our fish and we're so glad they seem to enjoy their new tank so much!

Finally there's Neville, our Pleco catfish. She's the oldest fish in the tank and doesn't bother with the Platys too much, usually being content to do her own thing, which is swimming around and eating algae. She stills adores zucchini, but also really loves the driftwood we added to the new tank.

This tells us that all the other fish we've had were at least six months old, probably older, because they were much larger than these two. They are very cute and have begun to swim up to the glass when we get near, and we're happy to see that they're turning out to be blue, just like their mom.

Hank and Stewart are our rapidly growing babies! Born at the beginning of August, they are named for our favorite brands of root beer because their father was Soda Pop (he had to be rehomed for bullying). Hank (boy, left) and Stewart (girl, right) are growing but are still smaller than the adults.

Jolene is a Molly fish, but she looks like the Platys. She is a scaredy fish, quick to hide when Starfire starts acting up or when anything startles her. She comes back eventually, usually first peeking out from inside the castle, which is quite cute. Her spotted pattern is very interesting as well.

Raven is the smallest adult Platy, but she tends to ignore Starfire's attempts at dominance and does her own thing. She's also very quick to swim over when we come to the tank, and seems to be the most chill of the fish.

Starfire is the largest Platy and decided she's the alpha of the tank. Once most of the food has been eaten she begins chasing the other fish away from the top of the tank. That's just how these fish behave. Her color is quite dramatic as well, we haven't seen another quite like her.

She gave birth while Vicky and I were on vacation (we're horrible parents we didn't even know she was pregnant) and two babies survived. She continues to be a very curious and friendly fish, often swimming over to the glass when we come close by, but also always investigating all corners of the tank

MEET THE PLATYS, AN UPDATE. As 2025 ends there have been some big changes in our fish tank. First of all, there's a new tank! Now 20 gallons, the fish love the extra space and all the live plants they can now swim among. Janey is now our oldest Platy, and she's a mom.

Camera test of the 35mm Russian Cinema camera with anamorphic lens given to me by my favorite college professor. It came out pretty well, but I learned a lot too. I just shot two full rolls in New Hampshire, so hopefully that will turn out even better.

Hmm, I see what you mean, I feel like there are some things missing. Still, it has the right idea, I never really climbed back on.

But this reminds, when I replayed MGS2 as part of the Master Collection Volume 1, I was reminded of how unbelievably good the music is in tanker chapter and made this:

All the fish are obsessed with zucchini, and we have to put more than one piece in because Neville will fight the other fish for it.

What's next? We now know fish enjoy live plants much more than plastic, so I'd like to get a bigger tank for them to enjoy more space, real plants, and more fish.

We also have two catfish, an Oto named Crookshanks and Bristlenose named Neville. They do good work always keeping the tank free of algae, are quite funny with their sucker mouths and silly ways of swimming. They are also calm, except when we put some zucchini in the tank.

They may be overshadowed at times by the bigger personalities, but we love them all the same.

Rosie and Janey are both named for Bruce song characters, and are Blue Wag Platys. Rosie has a bit of gold, Janey is all blue. They are simple fish, never causing problems, always putting up with Maury's aggression, and also eager to swim over whenever we approach the tank.

He frequently chases the other fish away, especially around feeding time. He even appears to have a permanent scowl from the dark spots on top of his eyes. Platys are famously fertile, but we've never seen a baby fish so he is probably sterile. Perhaps that's another reason he's so cantankerous.
