East River Park Action
@erpaction.bsky.social
We are here to improve the Lower East Side/East Village and New York City's health by advocating for a green, biodiverse, welcoming, shady, park with real grass fields. Our East River Park is being needlessly destroyed. We look to the future.
Proposals 2-6 on the ballot are not good for our Lower East Side and East Village--or anywhere in NYC. Kathryn Freed gives us the good reasons to vote NO in our latest post, Adams vs. Adams Family Values--NYC Style: eastriverparkaction.org/2025/10/22/a...

City Council Member Chris Marte, who has advocated for East River Park for years, has just announced he is running for Speaker. He is asking people to contact their CCMs to support him. Other CCMs running for Speakership include Amanda Farías, Crystal Hudson, Carmen de la Rosa and Julie Menin.

What did NYC learn from Hurricane Katrina that devastated New Orleans 20 years ago--or from Hurricane Sandy six years later? Nothing. We're still building 1950s style big hard levees (the kind that failed in New Orleans) with minimalist parks on top. Read more eastriverparkaction.org/2025/08/30/k...

The EDC is proposing adding a 34th St. ferry stop to the South Brooklyn line, which stops at Corlears Hook. Say hell yeah on their survey form and also ask that they stop at Stuy Cove and even 90th St. Here’s the link: edc.nyc/2025-nyc-fer...

The city is CLOSING the new section of East River Park and Pier 42 at 3:00 p.m. this July 4. We finally got a little piece of park, and now there will be NO celebrating, BBQing, Fireworks viewing. We used to shout Whose Park? Our Park!! That wasn't true then, and it's not true now.

If you have something to say to city officials about East River Park, here’s a good opportunity: Ribbon cutting Thursday at 11 am in the newly opened section of East River Park. (Only entrance is over Delancey St. footbridge on South Side of Delancey under the Williamsburg Bridge).

From our allies at Youth Against Displacement:
RALLY for CHINATOWN Thursday, May 15, 11:30 am, 46 Bowery. Mega-landlord Jonathan Chu evicted Jing Fong, the biggest dim sum hall in the East. Now @vitra a high-end furniture co. has this space for an elite showroom. Boycott Vitra. Stop Displacement.

The “Touch Grass” bill to BAN artificial turf in New York City Parks has been introduced by our City Council Member Christopher Marte. Please support this important environmental and health legislation.
May 10, 2025 at 1:15 AM
Ban Artificial Turf. Pass NYS Senate bill S6868. We've been advocating this to improve our health, the city’s environment and to help stem climate change. Yes—real grass fields (properly maintained) can do all that, and artificial turf damages all that. Contact Sen. Brian Kavanagh@nysenate.gov.
