Leftie. Loves history, astronomy, football, science and tech. Slava Ukraini!
It may have started as a token of remembrance, but is now a box to be ticked in order to stave off the critics.

Mandatory nationalism - no longer about remembrance for many.

The fascists shouldn't even be allowed to wear them!

Because you brits never change a tradition however sensible it would be.

Black Rod comes to mind :-)

'Formtroopers - are they all dressed in brown?
September 5, 2025 at 5:31 AM
That's a straw man argument right there...

...anything to gain...
July 13, 2025 at 5:50 PM
Agree. And reciprocity also kind of implies a deal between equals. EU and UK aren't equals when it comes to benefits gained from such a deal.
July 13, 2025 at 5:40 PM
Sure, but from a benefits/obligation viewpoint, a club is a fair analogy
July 13, 2025 at 5:30 PM
Reciprocal extension of 90/180 I meant
July 13, 2025 at 5:28 PM
The EU is a club where it's members get a bunch of advantages for a bunch of obligations. That Club needs to be wary of outsiders that wants any benefits without being a team players.

This means negotiation. Reciprocal 90/180 may not be in EU interest as a single ask.
July 13, 2025 at 5:27 PM
Not sure what's cryptic.

EEA was framed as cherrypicking - and I was kind of agreeing - but noted that there's a difference too. EU/EFTA EEA is more of a bunde of cherries. Not just the ones we want.

UK griping about the 90/180 feels more like a single cherry.

Maybe UK should add more...
July 13, 2025 at 5:15 PM
Even within that EEA cherrypicking, there are cherries that have to be picked as a bundle. So not unrestricted. We're bound by a lot of directives for our cherry - market access.

Also, I do think she (and many with her) seem to think UK and EU are equal counterparts, you're not. EU has 27 members and any 'reciprocal' right will favour UK massively.

The UK just giving EU citizens leave to enter for 180 days, does not mean you can claim unfairness just because..
July 13, 2025 at 5:04 PM
Possibly. I was going from her post, which is very entitled and muddy.

I'm mean - what is unfair in treating all third-countries equally?
July 13, 2025 at 4:56 PM
I'm sure most brexiteers thought the european openness was just a fact of life and not connected to EU membership. That this is not the case has been a brutal awakening for some.
July 13, 2025 at 4:52 PM
Your government has renounced that right on your behalf
July 13, 2025 at 4:45 PM
But it isn't a 'right' being denied you. It is just a fact that sucks.
July 13, 2025 at 4:44 PM
What right is being denied you that 90/180 change would fix?
July 13, 2025 at 4:42 PM
EU dropping the moniker 'cherry-picking' does nothing for the reality that cherry-picking still is frowned upon, they just have decided to be a bit more politically smart in the choice of words.

Brits do have Europe's longest toes (or thereabouts)
July 13, 2025 at 4:40 PM
How would I know when you haven't told me?
July 13, 2025 at 4:36 PM
The 90/180 day rule even if expanded does not grant right to work anyway. So not sure the working environment enters into it
July 13, 2025 at 4:34 PM
You don't really think I meant you personally, do you?

I'm not psychic...
July 13, 2025 at 4:32 PM
Wan't - doh. 😵‍💫
