And when our pulpits have told us Christianity and the American dream are synonymous, it’s no wonder we don’t know the suffering Jesus, & that our call to follow him looks more like a life of sacrifice than of consumption and comfort.

It’s the comfort with that privilege that keeps someone from the proximity of the pain of others.
