A beautiful sunrise to start the day meeting old and new colleagues in Duhok, Iraqi Kurdistan. So thrilled to be back.

Testing out the new juicer from Turkey for a massive amount of pomegranates from the tree this year. Strangely cathartic to do this after this week’s news cycle and worth it despite the kitchen looking like a murder scene afterwards.

Joyful turnout at the #NoKings protest on Jefferson in Newport News, VA with supportive honks from drivers so loud we had to make a quick exit sadly with our freaked out pup.

Behold the cowardice of the board, appointed by Governor Youngkin. This will be absolutely damaging to one of the top public universities in this country. UVA won't be the last unless there is push back.

I fell in love with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond a million years ago on a middle school field trip—and today reminded me what a gem it is. Their Frida Kahlo exhibit (on thru Sept) blew me away. Exactly the kind of beauty and power we need right now. Go see it and support the VMFA.

The way USAID's prime database, the Development Experience Clearinghouse is structured, makes it nearly impossible sadly for the wayback machine to grab. It's an unwieldy database but a treasure trove of data. When I've tried to do any advanced search of the database via wayback this is what I get:

Update: USAID's entire website is gone.

so limited, it's not useful sadly. you can access the first layer from what I can see via the wayback machine. When you attempt to do a search via this route, you just get this:

As a Virginian, I’ve always loved our state seal, but think it especially appropriate these days. Thus always to tyrants indeed.

Exactly this. My parents are both veterans. Hegseth's confirmation by the GOP is not only dangerous but also an insult to those who have served and continue to serve this country.
