UMN postdoc of indeterminate discipline and indiscriminate interests. neurodivergence, disability, decision-making, behavioral states, gender, metabolism, leptin, queerness, computing, sexuality, politics, general yelling. I like dogs a normal amount. she
Ah. Matilda came to visit me on the sofa at a bad moment, and this is what was left. I'd been working with four colors there.

Well, this is a fine sorting task for the evening. Dog's not sorry, either.

why no PLAY, she asks

(the answer is that it's both a heat and an air quality advisory, so we will be staying indoors until sunset.)

Anyway, the world is melting and my future is uncertain at best, but I still have my marigolds to peer at. I've really been enjoying them this year.

I saw a flag with this version at the St Paul MN protests. I want it very very badly, ngl...

I'm not the only one out and mad and yelling #NoKings in Minnesota, either:

Favorite theme so far: "I HOPE YOUR BIRTHDAY SUCKS"

Yes! Would yours?

They're called pide and are Turkish. Sometimes they get filled with vegetables or meat in addition to cheese.

Costco brought them in a few years back after I had gone nuts over them and forgotten several times. Spouse was *very* smug when they whipped out the package!

I've been on an Alice Duer Miller poetry kick lately, and as per usual her little book of rhymes for suffrage times has coughed up a poem uncomfortably apt for the present day. Here her satire of anti-suffragists reminds me way, way too much of the present 'centrist' resistance against fascism:

If you see this, post a flower🌷

My snapdragons are blooming! Might come back and share some of my many marigolds, too.

I'm in the process of teaching her to just bring me the med case but this has hit a snag in that she now punches me until I get near the case, grabs it and throws it at me with full enthusiastic force.

She's definitely enjoying herself, though, and the meds are getting taken on time, so... 🤷

WITNESSED

Came home earlier this evening from #MayDay protesting and ran into these folks a couple exits from my house. Guys! If I knew y'all were going to be that close, I'd have gone to that one instead!

The lady next to me ran into the recruiter from her last job. What protest silliness have y'all heard?

I always think of the Alice Duer Miller poem:

Sometimes I think I should have named my younger dog Matilda after DW from the Arthur show instead, because she is PEAK obnoxious little sister. Here she is rolling around and trying to gently touch older dog Benton's face with her toes.

Matilda agrees.

you cannot deny that Frank Beach's hate mail game was impressive. here's the literal figure 3 from the paper:

(for those who are not familiar, the paper's argument is that behavior researchers en masse are way, way too restricted to way too few species and also too few potential behaviors.)

uhhhhh. let's see. I have spent the last few years wrestling with increasing difficulty with task initiation and hyperfixation & the last two training my cattle dog Matilda to help me with those things. she isn't "done" yet but she IS remarkably helpful, often in ways I didn't initially anticipate.

cannot stop giggling to myself about the double labeled D1/D2 whole brain image we got back today. I mean yes it is very very pretty but it is also surprisingly and vividly phallic.

I published a paper that included these bad boys up front and center in figure 1, so you *know* I mean it.

It probably says something about me that this is the most tempted I've been by an airport magazine in fifteen years.

Recently I bought myself a pair of Manitobah boots as I have wanted like burning ever since discovering you don't need to wear socks with them and they'll keep you warm and cozy.

In retrospect, should have foreseen that lining heels in rabbit fur would be incredibly tempting for the heelers. Oops.
