How does Dan Gemeinhart do it, book after book after book?? This is another absolute page-turning high-stakes adventure that is bursting with incredible characters! Once again, he had me crying on one page, then howling with laughter the next. This one would make such a fun class read-aloud!

SCATTERGOOD is absolutely marvelous - set in rural Iowa during WWII, in and around the real Scattergood hostel for refugees. Peggy is a magnificent and REAL character, and this story was just perfect - warm, sad, funny, excellent setting. Historical fiction at its very best. @hmbouwman.bsky.social

BOOK RECOMMENDATION! A spare novel in verse that packs a big punch, story- and character-wise. An intriguing premise, about a girl who’s destined to be a 4th generation fire-spotter, having grown up - living with and learning from her Mom and Grandma - at the top of a fire tower deep in the woods.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION! A beautifully-written, edge-of-your-seat verse novel about a town trying to rebuild and move forward after devastating fires destroy everything - absolutely essential for helping kids understand wildfires and our human impact on the natural world. @baronchrisbaron.bsky.social

A balloon arch, state-specific food trucks researched and created by 3rd and 4th graders, and a cheering red-carpet welcome made today’s school visit extra special!!

My husband decided it was time for our teenagers to get up. He took a page from Walter Peach’s book (in The Great Peach Experiment). 😂🎺

Got to check out a super cool bookstore last night - Book Vault in Oskaloosa, IA! And we had a really strong turnout for my event - school events before a night book party always mean kids will show up wanting to know more - and I love seeing them a second time!!

I am in the middle of Iowa, doing a few days of school visits in veeeeery small communities. It’s so pretty and peaceful, and the town I’m sleeping in is the portrait of small-town America.

Got to visit my buddies at @dragonflybooks.bsky.social for a couple days of school visits (now I’m elsewhere in IA). LOVE the way they have their chapter book series displayed!

This is Hank, the emotional support dog at today’s Iowa school visit. I wish my schools had a buddy like Hank when I was a kid!

Here’s what I loved most about Mardi Gras in New Orleans: I have never been any place where absolutely everyone shines brightly in their own way and are so encouraged to embrace their unique self - and EVERY single person around celebrates and cheers them on. So much body positivity and self-love!

Today’s school visit in Iowa was so incredible! The kids were very creative and engaged, I got to play gym class, I found out I’m on next year’s Iowa state list, AND a generous community member donated money to buy a book for all 320 kids at the school!

Today I spent 6 hours in the sunny table at my public library, diving deep into history, because I’ve maxed out my library check-outs and could only bring 6 of these interlibrary requests home….

This right here is the start of a new novel. Research for these three threads continues, but it’s officially time to get the story in order….
