Working in public policy + design // PhD student @ PoliMi // 🇦🇺 in 🇮🇹, prev 🇸🇬 // she/her
An interesting thing to note about the Nick, 30 ans 'game' (nicksimulator.com) is that it tries to move the player into political action. My PhD research looked at the bridge from artistic/design activism to policy change - something that rarely went beyond general movement vibes.

Unsurprisingly, the same collective energy among senior Global North scholars to find safe harbours (officially or unofficially) for US colleagues and their work hasn't been there for colleagues from fragile and conflict-affected states, or authoritarian contexts... Decolonising the academy, eh? 🤔
I’m not judging individual scholars for leaving the US for theoretically safer universities.

I’m judging the rest of you for not noticing or caring that roughly 75% of your adjunctified colleagues have neither the putative protection of academic freedom nor the means to leave.

What's the literature that covers 'making an issue out of something that wasn't one, then proposing as a policy response something that both is technically unfeasible and will be wildly unpopular in the year before an election'?

Looking forward to a future where people use AI to complete surveys (the focus of the linked paper), researchers use AI to analyse the results and write the paper, and readers use AI to TL;DR summarise it...all while consuming huge amounts of resources.

One of the tech types: I have collected a number of cases during my research, currently sitting in an Airtable, that I'd like to turn into a website with some ability to filter by different categories/tags. Any suggestions as to the best no/low-code tool to use?

Currently in the depths of writing my thesis, and rereading transcripts from my fieldwork in Denmark. The hidden truth of policy entrepreneurship is that most efforts don't succeed, but reflecting on the energy of these young people and potential of their ideas when I now know how things ended is 💔

Does anyone I know have institutional access to the Picture Post magazine historical archive (via Gale)? Asking for me, as I fall down the rabbit hole of this one anecdote I want to include in my writing.

Tomorrow I will present my paper 'Thinking Outside the Circle: Moving beyond the policy cycle in design for policy' at #RSD12, sharing some thoughts and WIP from my PhD on what inspiration design might take from theories of the policy process, esp re policy entrepreneurship. (Proceedings to follow!)
