Taichung still manages to surprise me. Walked into an art gallery… because it was there.

There is a lot to be said about traveling the wild hinterlands and backwaters of central Taiwan in search of the perfect pandan flavored dessert….

The Match Cafe in Taichung is not only a politically progressive workspace in the shadow of Taichung’s iconic Golden Jaguar… they also have a very fine and quite boozy tiramisu.

“Evil slaves bullying their masters”

Lo Ming-Tsai, son of Celestial Alliance godfather Lo Fu-chu says the quiet part out loud and betrays the longstanding viewpoint held by the KMT toward Taiwanese in describing the recall campaign.

Sometimes Taichung really surprises…

Discovered Miss Steak walking past and gave it a try last Friday. Just a single chef plying his culinary artistry. Everything was fresh and unique to the venue… even the cocktails were originals.

In the 2017 animated film, On Happiness Road, April 5, 1975 is represented by the shared memory of heavy rains on the day CKS died. The film depicts the somber public performance juxtaposed with the joy at the birth of a baby, betraying the thoughts of Taiwanese on the inside— new beginnings.

In Taiwan, Mazu takes on a dual role of both maritime goddess of the sea; the protector of sailors, as well as a sort of defacto fertility goddess along the western plain as her pilgrimages coincide with the beginning of the spring rains and new growing season for rice.
