It is an amazing image. I’m actually working on an article right now about this series, the 1988 tour of the Atlanta Hawks to the USSR that followed, and the privatization of the Soviet sports empire at the Cold War’s end.

My first book was on the concept of internal diasporas in the USSR and focused on Georgians. My second book (Defectors) looks at a range of different emigre/diaspora groups and their responses to those fleeing the Soviet Union.
