Extremely powerful piece by @jonathan-watts.bsky.social. Here, in the Amazon, I have been hearing for 2y the stories of people that lost all their subsistence crops due to the drought. They move to the city to get a badly paid job in order not to starve. Hope is a luxury they can't afford.

An extremely necessary read - this comment in Nature is very uncomfortable, as it makes us question whether our actions are really addressing inequity in science or just making us fell better about ourselves.
I can’t promise this will be the last time I talk about inequity — or equity washing — in science. But after the multitude of responses to my Nature piece, I know something has shifted. Many came from the Global North. That alone feels like a small win. 👉 rdcu.be/eGEun
