Yeah it’s way too early to call. But I imagine Breslow & co. are looking at Devers’s declining z-con and feeling pretty good about their decision to trade him. Different calculus for the Giants of course.

They also traded the 68th overall pick, so that’s probably the same value as a 40 or 40+ FV prospect?

Birdsong or Roupp

Maybe the bullpen could become a good unit if Seymour, Whisenhunt, Teng, et al. get converted quickly?

Depth is good. Good teams have players like Schmitt (and better players than Schmitt) on their bench.
January 23, 2026 at 1:06 AM
I’m not seeing it with Schmitt. I like him as a bench bat but not as a regular. Edwards at least can get on base, run, and play 2B well enough. They’d make a good platoon at the very least

I wonder what it would take to acquire Xavier Edwards

Great content. Thank you for making this!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Eno!

What do you think explains the difference in Eldridge's EVs from those comps?
January 16, 2026 at 9:00 PM
It's such a dismissal free agent class outside of Skubal. Who is the top position player? Jazz or Bichette?
January 16, 2026 at 8:33 PM
Yeah, the QO system weirdly punishes mid-tier free agents like Zac Gallen or Gleyber Torres.

I believe he missed the first month of the 25 season and then three weeks in June/July because of his wrist, and then finally had offseason surgery on it.
January 16, 2026 at 8:12 PM
I wonder if the bone spur in his wrist impacted his bat speed late in the season? Doesn't make sense to me that a guy with a 114.6 max EV and 62.7% hard-hit% would have below average bat speed.
January 16, 2026 at 8:06 PM
Sure, I’d argue there was continuity from Evans/Sabean to Zaidi. Going back at least to when Johnson became principal owner. The org as a whole seems to prioritize stability and continuity.
January 9, 2026 at 8:03 PM
Posey didn’t exactly clean house inside the FO. GM was an internal promotion inside the org, kept Shelly as the AGM. Makes sense that they’d operate business as usual.

He was 107 wRC+ vs LHP last year. His career splits are 134 wRC+ vs LHP and 96 vs RHP.
January 8, 2026 at 7:12 PM
More seriously, I wonder what will happen if the Giants finish around .500 again in 2026. How does this team improve going forward? The ACL/San Jose wave is years away from impacting the major league roster. Major league core is aging fast. I don't understand the lack urgency from the FO/ownership
January 6, 2026 at 12:05 AM
The good news is they have a very strong and deep bullpen that can pick up the slack.
January 6, 2026 at 12:02 AM
Are they out on Bichette now or do they look to trade Gimenez or Clement?
January 3, 2026 at 6:34 PM
Yeah, I think there was probably more reason for optimism last year with Birdsong, Harrison, and Whisenhunt. We have new data but it doesn’t seem like their evaluations have changed (as far as we know.) Hope we aren’t making a desperation trade in July.

Even before adding Mahle, Minasian was saying he was comfortable with this pitching group heading into the season. Not sure why he’d say that unless to lower expectations. Or they really think their pitching group is better than public projection systems do.
December 31, 2025 at 8:51 PM
I think the WAR difference is smaller than it looks because of Devers's move to 1B/DH. I'd still take his contract over Alonso's though.
December 10, 2025 at 6:20 PM
I imagine they've been scouting Tyler Spangler pretty heavily just given his proximity.
