Wasn’t Betts’ homer in the 8th?

… Gaunt and Polly’s amulet scene 1, trash, why, brain fried…

Wilma and Nettie butchering each other in the residential street was important in the book. So of course the movie makes it happen in a farm house where no one can see. This movie sucks.

… It has literally and figuratively ripped the magic from the book.

The movie rips out so many characters and plot lines yet it can’t even keep the ones that impact the main characters. It’s got just under two hours to tell the story so it speeds through the events that makes the story meaningful…

… We feel sad reading that. Nettie was just so sweet and caring in that scene in the book. He shows us she doesn’t deserve what happens. She doesn’t visit Polly at all in the movie. Things just happen.

King like to tells readers ahead of time the fate of a character to build dread and one such instance is Nettie. When she leaves Polly’s to go play the prank on Buster, he tells us in the narration it’s the last time Polly sees Nettie alive...

Also, trying to use “In the Hall of the Mountain King” in that scene for humor while she’s putting them all over the rug isn’t working for me. They already showed Hugh at her house going to kill her dog, the time for humor in this point is past.

Why have Nettie still put up the “embezzlement” citations at Busters house with the deputy’s forged signature? Alan, the sheriff, ALREADY KNOWS!!! And didn’t do anything! Just made him promise to get the money back! WE HEAR HIM SAY “Just pay it back”!

Also having the graffiti use an Old Gods name for when Ace picks up the guns and the car.

… The screenwriter just want an apple cause the devil used an apple in the garden. But they forgot that GAUNT ISNT THE DEVIL IN THE FIRST PLACE! King used the word “demon” in the climax for his appearance but uses more Lovecraftian names for the dark power he uses.

Having Gaunt give Brian an apple so he uses apples to smash the windows is dumb. The rocks destroying everything they hit made sense cause their rocks. A middle school kid ain’t breaking a a 80s/90s tv screen with an apple that already went through a window...

The movie makes sure that the audience sees Gaunt witnessing Netties spat escalating but this actually makes him looks less powerful compared to the book. He just knows there. He can communicate to his customers minds far away there. Keep tabs on them. He feels all powerful. Here, not so much.

Buster just tells Alan about the embezzled money being gambled at the track! Him keeping a secret is what destroys his mental state along with a history of mental illness in his family! It’s such simple plot line for a minor villain and the movie is fumbling it!

He would constantly ask his girlfriend Polly how her arthritis was, which he just doesn’t in the movie. I thought the screenwriter just didn’t have her afflicted with it till the 37 minute mark! Movie feels like it’s in a hurry but also spinning its wheels at the same time!
April 30, 2025 at 8:09 AM
Oh my goodness this adaptation is making me mad! The book shows Sheriff Alan as a kind grieving man. Quick with hands, feet, and words. The movie has him quick to violence and as likable as a wet sock.
