Data Scientist/Engineer currently in Oslo. I love board games, ttrpgs, and reading fantasy/sci-fi.

“Evil begins when you begin to treat people as things.”
- Terry Pratchett, I Shall Wear Midnight.
Four planet variant Cosmic Encounter is a blast, shaves half an hour from the game, makes it a lot easier to play a 2nd round - excellent introduction for new players

Me, a fool: the time I gain from taking notes in markdown will surely not be canceled out by the time it takes to put them in a latex table in overleaf

Begun A Volume of Secret Faces. Players captured Barbas and have decided to explain their situation to Delta Green.
Time to prep an interrogation and a minor shopping mall trip I guess...

i know it's just advertisement but it still pisses me off when tech CEOs claim AGI will solve humanity's problems with its vast intelligence. for a lot of problems we already know the solutions, what prevents them being solved is not a lack of intelligence, but that the solutions are unprofitable

With the new user verification stuff, TBH, I increasingly want to restrict all my online interactions to only people who are verified as a real person or organization, perhaps with the exception of bots with confirmed ownership by a verified account.

Watching Pantheon S2.

The lil NERV sticker on the laptop is a nice touch.

Very satisfying to reach an end to the Night Floors with my amazing players. On to the next Volume.

Anecdotal, but I'm definitely noticing an uptick in advocacy for violence here. About which I'll say only this: Promoting violence on social media is the work of trolls and fools, those eager to bait others into implicating themselves in the age of surveillance or fools rushing to the gulag.

Looking forward to picking up Avowed eventually, I enjoyed the first Pillars of Eternity and I'm still hoping to find the time to play the second sooner or later.

My players have finally entered the Night Floors proper.

Everyone has social obligations in the coming days.

All but one player is close to breaking point.

What if history just didn't repeat itself, for once?
February 8, 2025 at 5:36 PM
Shower thought, but it's weird to have to run an LLM all the time, for every new question. Surely there are many repeat questions.

People running AIs are supposedly still taking big losses. There are huge running costs.

Why couldn't there simply be a database of existing questions and answers?

It is ever so slightly surreal to be an ocean across from an unfolding crisis, with little ability to help - I would like to do *something* - there's much that can be done here too, but I'm afraid of being stuck treating symptoms instead of dealing with root causes
