I'm ashamed by Trump's attempted Chamberlaining of Ukraine. Now is Europe's moment to defend Democracy. I don't say this lightly- a strong, assertive Europe diminishes our relative power, likely permanently. By electing Trump, we've proven we can't be relied upon, economically or militarily.

I fear Trump accomplished what he set out to do. He wanted to burn down the post WWII order and he has. Now, regardless of whether he backs off the tariffs, the nations of the world know they cannot rely on us, either for defense or our markets. And so our role in the global order will diminish.

Looking at Trump’s cabinet/administration picks, I’m reminded of the Turkish proverb, “When a clown moves into a palace, he doesn’t become a sultan. The palace becomes a circus.”

I just pray our democracy survives.

Today is the first day I spent a significant amount of time on both BlueSky and Threads. Not sure that’s a good thing.
