Ok Doc, I'll bite. Doesn't the Sun-Earth-Moon system actually confirm the problem exists? It seems like multiplying by one: A*B*C=D and C=1, so A*B=D, that doesn't discount that A*B*C=D is still correct. You wouldn't want to make the assumption for every A, B and C that A*B*C=D=A*B, right?
