American ex-pat living in Canada. (Very) amateur astrophotographer, professional forgetter of important things
I’ve used an old phone to do this before, just as an Audible player (I also kept podcasts and Kobo/Kindle on it). Wifi only, no messaging, socials, or browsers. You do have to be able to resist downloading social apps though, because you’re still logged into your normal store account.

Ohhhh noo I was JUST thinking “I have a really good set of pens now, I actually don’t feel tempted to buy another one for the first time in…ever” and now THIS

…but. Unless it comes apart and reassembles really easily, it would be a one-ink pen for sure.

It’s times like this when I wish @70sdinnerparty had made the jump here from twitter, this is the *best* time of year for great 70s food content

My attitude on this is probably different because of kids/jobs/etc, there so little time to play anything now that I’d rather just wait till it works

100% every time, with the sole exception of BG3, which I bought before launch and had zero reason to regret playing on day 1. Can’t think of another title I’d do that with though. Generally happy to wait a year or longer for everyone to figure themselves out and then get it on sale.

Indirectly related, in all my years as a lighting designer, I only once put my foot down and insisted on a choice (it was making a fluorescent light flicker to, uh, build grimness?) All it built was everyone thought the light was broken. Terrible. That was a solid lesson in collaborative humility.

Pour one out for whoever had to grind through this one, then. Or send them a bottle to pour out themselves. Thanks!

Jim Gaffigan has been at it for so long, and changed so little, that I was actually shocked when they cut to the audience and the hairstyles were from like 20 years ago

Btw “unless there are some y-axis shenanigans going on” is maybe the nerdiest thing I ever wrote without trying, and I think it would also be a really inspired lead-in to a dating app profile. Free idea for everyone out there.

Unless there are some y-axis shenanigans going on in this graph, we’ve mostly run out of things to say about the stuff by any spelling. Which is interesting all on its own.

(Also noting that I can only see where the screw even GOES because of this current pair of unbroken glasses, I am really setting myself up for Burgess-Meredith-Weeping-On-The-Library-Steps level of failure here)

Nooooooo

Why is it that when the spare pair breaks we do not think “must get these fixed, how bad would it be if both pairs were broken at one time, hahaha no really I should fix these immediately before I forget, right?” AND THEN DO IT

He says, eyeing his spare pair with a missing screw

Yeah this is more of a “two bullets dodging each other” scenario

I agree and, related, having a career where your entire job is having takes, repeatedly, every day, forever, leads you to take strong podcaster-voice positions on increasingly stupid subjects, until you get to…wherever this is
