I don’t think our ancestors wanted to eat meteorites or stones from the sky. There are cases where they made knives etc from the larger metal ones. (King Tut had a meteorite dagger.) This adds a dust across the land. (You can pick up some with a magnet.) Very low risk of lead poisoning.
