Writes in too much detail about ordinary practices & reasoning. Ethnomethodology & Conversation Analysis. Professor of Geography & Interaction, University of Edinburgh. He/him.
I’m voting ‘yes’ & ‘yes’ again because after 6 months Edinburgh management haven’t yet come to the table. @ucuedinburgh.bsky.social

Yes, this one feels more independent. Thanks again Juliet.

Yep. Perfect. Just need to adjust the printer margins to 0.0. Here’s my copy to take home.

The delicate dance of revealing more or less of who we are for one another, as it happens at the café counter. Co-authored with Sylvaine Tuncer. #EMCA #geosky

Delayed by a late flight, Sandra Laugier and Richard Rechtman discuss their thoughts on public space, crowds, democracy and Cavell. Those who waited were delighted. @mediaautomatiek.bsky.social @ifecosse.bsky.social

I’ve voted ‘yes’ & ‘yes’ so we can stop the cuts at Edinburgh. And with Chris Hoy support too. @ucuedinburgh.bsky.social #ucueballot

As my thoughts turn toward digging out ‘cold dalek compost’ there’s cheer, dismay and stories of children burning their feet in hot dung heaps in the Highlands to digest first. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4... @frasermacdonald.bsky.social

A cracker of a SEDIT session with guest @profsalwiggins.bsky.social - satiety, nutrition and rounds of jokes between pre-school children and their teacher around finishing their food. #EMCA

It’s a treat to sit in on a colleague teaching, especially when it’s @frasermacdonald.bsky.social on the Highland landscape. Surprised by how few students could identify a birch tree.

Emanuel Schegloff, one of the founding figures of Conversation Analysis has passed away. Aside from the brilliant, concise yet often very long papers, he taught so many of us the patience and imagination required for ‘unmotivated listening’ .

New collection on instructed-action due out next week edited by Lynch & Lindwall. Received my author’s copy in the post. Routledge are knocking £30 off the price of the hardback. #emca #Garfinkel

I’m really not the dinging type but the return of the Edinburgh Festival random-pedestrian-trajectories took its toll. (‘random-pedestrian-trajectories’ is not a 5 star show but I probably would go and see it, if it was).

Retiring my 2008 Mac Pro. Hard drives yanked out for a last time - only a few of my fingernails cracked. It’s reliably served up Terabytes of video for the last 15 years. Lots of dust. My team of trained mice have not hoovered inside it for a while, it seems.
