Thailand Calls on International Community to Pressure Cambodia on Landmine Clearance
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged the international community to review demining assistance to Cambodia, calling on Phnom Penh to cooperate in clearing anti-personnel mines and to stop spreading misinformation online. A delegation of 36 diplomats from ASEAN and Ottawa Convention States Parties—representing 33 countries, one organization, and two international organizations—visited Si Sa Ket province to observe evidence of Cambodian-planted landmines on Thai territory and the impact on civilian areas. Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa, alongside the Si Sa Ket Governor and military representatives, briefed the delegation, stressing that the use of anti-personnel mines violates Thailand’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law, including the Ottawa Convention and the UN Charter.
