Full time artist, part time poster of said art.
Lastly, we did some #fanart pieces to celebrate the #comic hitting 15k on deviant art.
Ironically, the end of this particular "saga" of my art. Though I might post the comic itself one of these days.

⚠️Risqué-costumes. Twokinds-level catgirls.

Last on the cast list I actually drew were Jacob & Cassius' mothers. Mrs. Walter (and Madelyn) would eventually make the jump to Lux and join the fight against Queen Nictor; the eventual endgame villain (IIRC.)

⚠️Topless female.

Each chapter was planned to have some kind of #splashart. Sometimes story relevant, sometimes just fun stuff.
Bleach was a heavy style influence for me at the time. This #comic in particular.

Also included were Madelyn; Jacob's athletic & intelligent girlfriend, & Vira; a warrior from a tribe of demons. She'd often vie for Jacob's affection, giving them kind of an Ayeka/Ryoko dynamic (Shina being Ryo-Ohki ofc.)

⚠️Underwear. "Nude" #catgirl.

Our main antagonists included Emperor Cassius Nictor, his mother, and his army of demon-infused concubines...
Classy stuff. Real high concept. 👌👌

⚠️ Characters in underwear & slinky/tattered dresses.

These were our principle heroes so far as the initial script covered. Which wasn't much. Maybe 3 chapters past what I drew.
Plot wise, they were revolutionaries. Fighting to free the land from a warmongering kingdom.

⚠️Suggestive #catgirl "nudity" (she's covered in fur.)

Between re-brands of Devil's Angels, we started another #comic series about a 15yo boy who gets mysteriously Isekia'd into a #fantasy world that seems strangely familiar to him.
This was the longest running comic I worked on, lasting 3 chapters and 40-ish pages.
The comic was called Lux Aeterna.

Erics was possibly my favorite to draw. Specifically because I loved treating him like a big baby/puppy. I don't know what the long-term plans were for him, but I like to think he'd have limped away after the final battle with his handler/waifu. Live off the grid in piece.
Suggestive: Skimpy outfit.

Colored versions of the portraits. Still in that pre-tablet era. Heck, pre-line art really. Still just Magic Wand-ing my sketches at this point.

The story had SEVERAL iterations over the years, losing the Trigun connection while taking more cues from DMC. Most versions kept the same general "dead-parents revenge" plot as well as the same 6 principle characters: Relad, Kat, and these 4.

Devil's Angels was originally a #Trigun fan-#comic about a boy who's parent's were killed by bandits... or demons? Vash takes him in, raises him, teaches him to shoot, revenge (probably,) etc, etc. These are the only "complete" pages from that original incarnation.

Backtracking one last time to high school, this was the start of a MAJOR portion of my art "career." One that would last, in one form or another, for almost a decade.
This was the start of Devil's Angels.

I wasn't just doing #fanart though. Becoming more engrossed in #tabletop games, I was occasionally wrangled into drawing my friends characters as well. And, as I became more noticed online, that extended other's #OC's and eventually #commissions.
"Graphic Media" First image has some fantasy-gore 💀🫀.

Hopping around a bit, We also come to the dawn of the digital age. At least from when I started archiving them for safety/preservation. Well before I got a tablet with little experience with the program. I was mostly taking old pieces and magic wand-ing the sketches. Was a big fan of the S&P filter.

When I wasn't doing fanart I was often working on myself. Literally. I drew me a lot. Often for #tabletop games. Most of those first characters were just alt versions of myself. Easy to roleplay. I did eventually manage to break that habit.

I started doing more fanart here and there. Breaking down styles, trying to accurately replicate their elements, what made a character LOOK like that character. Really think about what features all those lines represented.

#AdventChildren had also come out around this time, so I tried my hand at some reference portraits. Trying to push the amount of detail I could squeeze out of my hands.
I also did a Yuffie painting based on VII's game manual, but I never got it back from my teacher. Still kinda mad about it.
November 18, 2024 at 4:38 PM
I also did a fair amount of original work. Iterations on old characters, some new ones here and there. Trying to improve my "people skills."
This was literally going to be a bridge game between FFVIII & IX so good Squaresoft would hire 15/16yo me. True story.

Next came what I consider some of my first commission work.
Wasn't really "PAID" work, but it was my first experience drawing someone else's characters/ideas.
I'm actually still quite fond of a few of these.

As not to seem like I'm cherry picking too hard with some of these pieces, here are some prime examples of my art from roughly the same 2-year time period as the last few posts. Weren't all blue ribbon.

Human's were also on the table. Well, human adjacent. Mostly a couple elf characters I had. People in general I struggled with a lot more. Creatures always had more wiggle room for interpretation.

The combination of Tolkien and FF really cemented my affinity for creatures and fantasy; dragons in particular. Likewise, this was really the start of my B&W era.
Always a little iffy when trying to remember exactly where and when I drew these pieces.

After getting the Two Towers extended edition, I got obsessed with the appendices. The way they went into designing the weapons & armor, world building through design.
It really gave me an appreciation for the subtle influences of a worlds history & function on the narrative & visuals.
November 15, 2024 at 12:42 AM
Skipping my "tracing phase", next came my big Final Fantasy obsession. Mostly 8, 9 & X/X-2.
Especially thought Leviathan and Bahamut were particularly cool.
It's debatably what got me into "fantasy", though that wouldn't fully kick in until much later.

Fast forward a few years to my first OC('s brother.)
While Poke'mon and Digimon were my gateways into anime as a "style", DBZ and the Toonami block became a big influence. Muscles, transformations, power-ups, etc.
Final Fantasy later on.
