There’s gonna be so much working against the GOP in November. The economy. Trump’s worsening mental state. White collar AI anxiety. I’m a believer in Dems winning the senate.

You can’t vibe code up some software that has actual stakes for your company if you fuck it up.

Genuinely can’t imagine what shape he’s gonna be in a year or two now.

I just can’t imagine many republican house reps are going to quietly accept blue territory being added to their districts after tonight, this might end the redistricting wars.

I also have plenty of misgivings about her since she’s nearly 80, but am glad Mills got in as a legit alternative to really get all this oppo research out in the open now.

Every day I am newly impressed at their dedication to fumbling this shutdown

I wonder if part of the disconnect between actual workers and the magical AI thinking of high-level managers is that AI can actually do a lot of stuff that managers do like writing emails and strategic documents full of inscrutable jargon that sound more impressive than they actually are

Especially since there’s a decent chance that the strongest GOP contenders get spooked by the Trump midterm / recent special elections and decide to just wait for Grassley’s seat.

Matt is doing a lot of handwaving when Trump’s overall approval on all of those issues he cites is negative, less than a year in. Those were his whole pitch.

Now that we’re beyond the initial novelty period and working more on how we actually use it at work, it feels a lot less ‘replacing people immediately’ and more ‘this is helpful, sometimes, to provide a human a starting point or a quick shortcut on a small task’

I live in Illinois so I’ve always liked Pritzker but I am genuinely shocked at how much better his political instincts have been in Trump 2.0 than like 85% of elected dems
August 7, 2025 at 2:08 AM
The economy hasn’t even degraded that badly yet and he’s already underwater on that issue!
August 4, 2025 at 2:57 PM
My brain just isn’t wired for conspiracies so it’s hard to wrap my head around this being something that is genuinely getting real people fired up but a guy I work with who voted Trump in 2024 has absolutely been losing his shit, going on about how he feels “betrayed”
July 17, 2025 at 9:18 PM
Like…go win a trifecta and set a national standard for gerrymandering. But just saying “the game is more fun if you follow all the rules!” while the other players are setting the board on fire gets you absolutely nowhere.

Unfortunately for them, unless they drop a lot of tariffs *soon* some genuine economic damage / inflation is baking in fast.
April 23, 2025 at 3:29 PM
Even if Trump did decide to roll back most of the tariffs (huge *if*) there’s so much general uncertainty now that I fear things are still gonna be rough for awhile.
April 4, 2025 at 11:44 AM
Even if Trump dropped the tariffs next month, at what point do you think a recession gets unavoidable? If I’m a business, I am pulling back on spending because things look so unstable week to week.

And a lot of trade and international dealmaking is contingent on other countries trusting you to not just go rogue and blow everything up

You can’t unring this bell in the short term
April 2, 2025 at 11:55 PM
Trump looked at a listless Democratic Party and a deflated resistance and said “not on my watch”
April 2, 2025 at 10:21 PM
I could be wrong (what do I know) but this also feels like rocket fuel for *exactly* the kind of economic doomsday content that his new voters that get most of their news from social media and ominously narrated YouTube videos love to inject right into their eyeballs
April 2, 2025 at 9:36 PM
Awful if this passes, but I don’t hate there being a big public catalyst for a total overhaul in how Dems are operating.
March 14, 2025 at 6:46 PM
Low-info voters who aren’t paying attention won’t have any idea and your highly engaged base that has been following this closely is furious at *you*—incredible 4d chess happening here
March 13, 2025 at 11:45 PM
Also tired of, “another blow for Dems” framing. God knows what 4-6 years from now will look like, next midterm is the most favorable election cycle to do retirements for the foreseeable future. You can do a lot of good over a lifetime in politics and still aren’t owed a seat into your 80s.
March 12, 2025 at 2:57 PM
This is just anecdotal but a guy I work with whose your prototypical covid-radicalized-him-to-the-right kind of person is so disgusted with Trump about this and keeps saying he’s been “betrayed.” I think republicans might have a real problem of their own making coming.
