What Trump announced today:
"For 50 days, I'll give Putin carte blanche to destroy Ukraine & maybe then we'll get Patriot missiles already paid for by other countries to Ukraine."
If European leaders think they have brought Trump into the anti-Putin camp, they'll soon find out how wrong they are.

Satchel Paige, a hero for the ages, got much less attention for integrating MLB (& like Jackie Robinson led his team to the World Series in his inaugural season). Picking up 1 of the many biographies of his life is an instructive lesson on 20th c. American history. Larry Tye's is the best I've read.

One wonders how this passes muster in the leading publication of a scholarly field even on the basis of having a debate. See below. Posen is writing mumbo jumbo masquerading as "theory." (Is IR a field that simply allows an "extant general theory" to ignore or make up facts?)

👇🧵 on the @nytimes.com editorial. Describing the unlawful ending of civil rights enforcement, illegal deployment of military, inhumane actions against immigrants & other anti-constitutional offenses as "closer to public opinion" is chilling normalization even by the Times's both-sides standards.

Note the difference w/ the @nytimes.com. Predictable.
BTW, headlines & coverage matter. The New York Times Editor is normalizing us to accept that a grave human rights violation by a US president is a minor issue to be shrugged off. Should be a banner headline: Trump Vows to Defy Constitution.

I am always struck how @foreignaffairs.com runs delusional pieces advising "how to negotiate with Russia." In this case, the authors advise Trump to negotiate from a "position of strength" when all he has done is weaken the US's position in support of Ukraine.

Since I'm commenting on Realists today, @stephenwalt.bsky.social sums up everything. He explains why he misjudged Trump by admitting how he simply didn't believe what Trump said during his campaign (or over 8 years) nor take seriously his actions in his 1st term. Hardly a realistic means of.... 1/2

Europe will need to sanction the US as a 3rd-party abettor of the Russian war machine. I ask again: Is there a possibility any part of the Republican establishment will stand up to this. Just 4 Rs in House & 4 in Senate are needed to block sanctions relief. 75 & 20 needed for veto-proof margins.

In the words of Tom Petty,
Well, I won't back down
No I won't back down
You could stand me up at the gates of Hell
But I won't back down
No I'll stand my ground
Won't be turned around
And I'll keep this world from draggin' me down
Gonna stand my ground
And I won't back down
Well, I won't back down
No I won't back down
You could stand me up at the gates of Hell
But I won't back down
No I'll stand my ground
Won't be turned around
And I'll keep this world from draggin' me down
Gonna stand my ground
And I won't back down

Musk has posted and spread Russian state propaganda lines from when he bought Twitter. It's now nonstop (even boosting fascist ideologist Alexandre Dugin). Yet not a single news outlet reports the extent of this. cc: @maddow.msnbc.com @nytimes.com @cnn.com @wsj.com @nbcnews.com @washingtonpost.com.

Going on the other site has one benefit: to understand the full danger of Musk. To him (& Trump) an election means getting rid of everything that has been voted on in the past & eliminating the institutions in a democracy that have been built over time. 49.4 percent gives a mandate for "Revolution."

This, from the @wsj.com this morning. Hard to believe how dimwitted capitalists could be. Did they not believe him when he repeatedly stated what he would do? In fact, , this reflects their misjudged view of power. They thought power lay in their hands. They're finding out it doesn't.

The @nytimes.com is evidence of democracy in grave danger. Note that four years later Trump's release of the more than 1,500 violent criminals who put the republic at risk merits a small subhead (the action "angers police") beneath a banner proclamation of Trump acting to remake the nation.

Here is an alternate lede for @peterbakernyt.bsky.social:
Donald Trump, the first felon to take the oath of office, was sworn in as 47th President of the United States at the site where violent supporters attempted to keep him in power 4 years earlier. He pardoned them later in the day. 2/

Seeing @nytimes feeds & print version, we no longer read a newspaper but a propaganda filter failing to report news.

This is the accurate accounting of the year that should be done by news outlets. Also, that the effect of the cut-off of aid was over 9 months (US had to carefully calibrate supplies & cost). And that it was the GOP that was responsible for all of Russia's advances this year.

Actually, they simply shouldn't share it. Period. Indeed, intelligence heads should state publicly now that they will not share intelligence if she is confirmed. Although, this is a clear declaration by Trump. Even if Gabbard is denied confirmation, he'll share intel w/ Russia.

A first post here. Bremmer (on the other platform) is correct. Whatever the truth of the call, Russia is in a stronger position with Trump winning. BTW, the question isn't whether Russia had a determinative effect (it had some), it is why the GOP nominated the candidate Putin wanted back in the WH.
