Working for racial, gender, and economic justice thru fiscal policy @DCFPI. Posts are my own.
Truly astounded by @mayorbowser.bsky.social. The social safety net is designed to meet basic human needs in a city with extreme racial and economic inequity, not attract residents or tourists. 🧵https://www.washingtonian.com/2025/07/08/interview-dc-mayor-muriel-bowser-her-blm-plaza-decision/

A job guarantee that places 4,100 young workers in full-time work with robust supports for 1 year would cost DC ~$249m annually. This is scalable & while the report doesn't get into it, there are likely substantial cost savings associated with a high-quality employment intervention. 6

DC’s Black-white youth unemployment ratio is nearly 5-to-1 so a job guarantee should look to redress deep & chronic racial inequities and prioritize those most in need. 4

On the road ahead, it'll be really important that we keep dreaming. That's why just last week @dcfpi.bsky.social released a proposal for a DC youth job guarantee to cut through structural barriers erected by a long history of racism & bias in the labor market 🧵 www.dcfpi.org/all/a-qualit...
