My youngest son was not a fan of flying over water at the time and this certainly did not help. After refueling in NAS, our 757 (after a warning from the flight deck) rocketed off the "short" runway and we got into SJU a couple of hours late.

The only diversion I can think of was when my family flew MIA-SJU and made a very sudden emergency landing in NAS. Not sure I've ever experienced such a sudden descent and during the u-turn no less. Never felt out of control. Kind of fun with all due respect to the PAX in distress.

Alaska (and I'm sure others) has phone jacks in the PSU about every 10 rows give or take. It allows cabin crew (and any doc on board) to talk directly to the remote doc. I've seen it in action on a BOS-SEA transcon. We did not divert.

I've only been to Paris twice and both times stayed at the hotel on this street... I recognized it immediately. Hotel Esmeralda is a fun place to stay!
