Honestly, same. Sucks to check in just to see people shit-talking a genre

I did! Hounds of Orion by D.M. Rook, a sci-fi mecha. It's a great story and I'm glad to have been part of the telling of it

That's awesome, JJ! Best of luck with it!

I simply don't see a way trad could keep up with indie in the space. Also the way they go about getting new talent is the complete opposite to how it's done in the LitRPG/ProgFan genre space. They'd have to make a lot of changes to the way they do business

Legends and Lattes appears to have been self-published (Cryptid Press) before it was picked up by Tor 9 months later. Even then, Baldree was already established in the space thanks to his voice acting work and connections. I'd argue that *was* an out of the way acquisition

I don't disagree, but I also don't see them really having a foot in the door here unless they're trying to acquire more already existing works. Their publishing cycle is simply too long compared to the indie space. Even if they ultimately have greater reach, which is doubtful

Trad publishers would have to give a lot more incentives than they do nkw and fully change the way they do business to take on more LitRPGs. I don't see it happening any time soon

LitRPG is the shiny new toy on the shelf. I hope it continues to garner new interest and new eyes, but it's by no means the future of all fantasy. It's a subgenre that is steadily gaining steam and recognition

Congratulations!
