This was such a fun movie! It really surprised me, it touched on so many emotions and themes and balanced the horrors of imperialism with the charm and whimsy of sky pirate sons in pink leggings. Especially loved the confused American/aussie accent of the lead. 10/10

Wolf Children! Not a Ghibli film, but the inspiration is definitely there. I appreciated a movie centered around an adult woman and her very relatable problems of home ownership, poverty, and raising half-werewolf kids by herself. It was heart wrenching but sweet and just rly enjoyable!! 💖💖

Kiki’s Delivery Service!! Not new to me but a cozy classic. I love the music in this one a lot, and the way she finds people who care for her and support her even tho it’s so fucked up witches have to leave home so young???? wtf lol anyway… griffin tombo McElroy you’ll always be famous

Princess Mononoke 💖 I was surprised by this one in a lot of ways, especially the way Iron Town’s inhabitants were portrayed by the narrative and the redemption ? of the big bad as another pawn of greater evils. The core struggle will probably always be relevant..but i love the hopeful ending

My Neighbor Totoro!! Also hadn’t seen this before and it was so cute. Definitely less intense than some others, but the animation of course was great and the backdrops are always so lush and delightful. I want to live in their house. Cute and nostalgic!!

Literally forgot movies are included in this so here’s a backlog. Been on a ghibli binge lately… Spirited Away is one of my new favorites!!! It was weird and beautiful and full of amazing side characters. If I had seen it younger I think Lin would have awoken something in me. 9/10 (-1 for vom stuff)

Yesterday I finished The God of the Woods by Liz Moore. It ripped complete and total ass (positive). Worth the 26 week wait for the library’s ebook and definitely deserves all its accolades. Please pick this up for a drama/mystery/coming of age/queer adjacent read you won’t put down 🙏
