The Equity Charter was founded by Ayesha Rahim, Victoria Betton & Hassan Chaudhury in March 2024 to stand up for equity in all aspects of the Digital Health world.

But the Charter isn't an end in itself. We do this because if we in our sector do not embed equity in our work, we will not develop digital products, platforms or services that work for the diverse community we serve. Once we launch, that's when the real work begins for us all. Will you join us? 7/7

Now, we are thrilled to announce that we will be launching the Charter, with our overarching partners NHS Providers, TechUK & Digital Health at the Rewired 2025 conference, 1yr after the news first broke. As well as the principles, you will find tangible actions that YOU can take to embed equity 6/7

The outputs of the Summit were 10 principles which form the backbone of this Charter. We then published the draft principles publicly for feedback. We got loads! Turns out we're not the only ones in the sector who care about equity in digital health 😊 We then amended & improved the principles. 5/7

In July '24 we held the Equity Charter Summit hosted by the King's Fund, inviting a small group of experts to help us develop the actual Charter. Attendees included experts from the world of digital, EDI, procurement & legal. We even received a written statement of support from Diane Abbott MP 4/7

The open letter was made public on day 2 of Rewired conference in March '24. We asked individuals & organisations to sign the letter, & soon amassed over 1000 signatures. This included prominent tech companies, professional bodies, and NHS organisations. This gave us a mandate for stage two... 3/7

So we wrote an open letter on behalf of the entire digital health community repudiating the remarks, & calling for the creation of a digital "equity charter" to set out standards of behaviour for ourselves and others. We wanted to make it clear that this behaviour had no place in our sector. 2/7
