Canada's Prime Minister Carney has confirmed $2.5 billion support for Ukraine, and has been criticized by some because they say the money could be better spent locally. But the money supports economic growth, and that's not an abstract concept. If we ignore this kind of investment, we lose major possibilities. For example, the investment encourages shared technology, like electronics developed by Ukraine, which could be crucial for Arctic defence. It also means support for Canada's standing in NATO and the G7 and greater defence and industrial cooperation. This is part of a major economic restructuring which was made necessary by the US change in foreign policy, and Mr. Carney is taking advantage of a bad situation.
