16's numbers immediately disprove the conclusion assumed to have been drawn from 15 (or at least are hopefully a wake-up call that a male-focused cast isn't a silver bullet for 15-tier sales) but it releasing immediately after 15 definitely proves something if you count two data points as proof

Sales numbers are always just guesses basically unless you're actually in the boardroom, but that is pretty unusual for the series since 7. Assuming the numbers available to the public are roughly accurate (lol) it's not the only series to sell better in japan than abroad but the ratio is noteworthy

Overseas reception to 13, I assume? It's actually one of the better selling mainline games but those stats are hard carried by domestic sales. And I'm guessing the data from comparing 13 and 15 is that games with male leads sell way better at home but especially overseas than ones with a female lead
