I prefer King Size. As in, the length of a Stephen King novel:

AfroSF: Science Fiction by African Writers - an excellent collection of short stories by the likes of Nnedi Okorafor. I just discovered there are two sequels that I need to read.

56. Day Watch - Sergei Lukyanenko: The second book in Lukyanenko's Night Watch series. In Moscow, the forces of light police the activities of the forces of darkness and vice versa. An uneasy truce is maintaied. Three stories that feed into one another. Enjoyable series.

56. Doña Vicenta de grootmoeder (De Metabaronnen, #6) - Alejandro Jodorowsky: Bat. Shit.
May 27, 2025 at 2:47 AM
55. 1989 - Val McDermidL The sequel to 1979 (see above). Reminds you what a depressing year that was from Lockerbie to Hillsborough, culminating in the fall of the Berlin Wall. Very good novel though.

54. The Heart of a Woman - Maya Angelou: The 4th volume of Angelou's autobiography as she moves from California to New York and then Egypt and Ghana.
May 26, 2025 at 10:02 PM
53. The Time of the Hero - Mario Vargas Llosa; Reading the World travels to Peru for Llosa's novel set in a military school in Lima. A pity I didn't get to this before he died earlier this year.
May 26, 2025 at 10:00 PM
52. Carrie - Stephen King: Back to the begining for my King binge. Surprising structure to the book and one I can see has been copied by other writers over the years.
May 26, 2025 at 9:57 PM
51. The Colour of Magic - Terry Pratchett: Tried reading Pratchett 30 years ago and couldn't get into him. Trying again. Still pretty meh to be honest.
May 26, 2025 at 9:54 PM
50. Doctor Sleep - Stephen King: The sequel to The Shining. Did my usual with this one. 4 days to read the 1st third and 2 days to read the rest. Once it got going, I really enjoyed this one.
May 17, 2025 at 12:22 AM
49. Staalkop - Alejandro Jodorowsky: More Metabaron. More batshit.
May 13, 2025 at 4:22 AM
48. Oda de overgrootmoeder - Alejandro Jodorowsky: More Dutch language Metabaron. It continues to be batshit.
May 13, 2025 at 4:20 AM
47. Tar Baby - Toni Morrison: A fugitive on the run in the Caribbean meets a fashion model on the rich estate where he seeks shelter. Loathing turns to love. Few people can write prose like Morrison.
May 13, 2025 at 4:19 AM
46. Singin' & Swingin' & Gettin' Merry Like Christmas - Maya Angelou: Part three of Maya Angelou's autobiogrpahy as she tours the world as a dancer in Porgy and Bess. Equal to I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.

RJM. I seem to make effects pedals.
May 9, 2025 at 12:07 PM
45. Shadow of Night - Deborah HarknessL Second part of the All Souls series and we find ourselves time walking in Elizabethan London. All the usual suspects turn up in due course.
May 9, 2025 at 9:46 AM
44. Het Achterhuis - Anne Frank: The best, worst book for practising my still middllig Dutch. Best because the entries are mostly short. Worst, because we know how this ends for her and millions like her. Read it three times. Will read it as many times again until I understand every word.
May 9, 2025 at 9:43 AM
43. Fugitive Telemetry - Martha Wells: A body is found on a space station and Murderbot must investigate. Probably the weakest of the series, but still decent.
May 9, 2025 at 9:36 AM
42. All That Remains - Patricia Cornwell: The 3rd Kay Scarpetta novel. Someone is murdering young couples. The daughter of the president's new drug czar is the latest to go missing. Tickng clock, police procedural, etc, etc. All very well done.
May 9, 2025 at 9:34 AM
41. Island of Shattered Dreams - Chantal T. Spitz: As part of my Reading the World project, I'm also reading books from parts of the world that remain colonised. The 1st novel by an indigenous Tahitian is a love story set against the backdrop of France's nuclear testing program on the island.
May 9, 2025 at 9:30 AM
40. Network Effect - Martha Wells: First longer novel after the Murderbot Diaries quartet (see above). More of the same, but it's all good fun.
