I ended up going with “A Horseman in the Sky,” because it looked like a bit of an easier read for 13-14 year olds, but most of them couldn’t deal with it. They’ve been told for years they can’t handle anything. Little to no capacity for anything over 500 words, let alone using their own imagination.

Love “Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.” It’s the one that got me into Bierce, but I may have to go with “Chickamauga.” Thanks for the input!

For me, the name Al always conjures this song (and doesn’t Paul Simon seem ripe for AI-ification?):

I have that Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds live album. Thought it was going to change my whole perception of Dave Matthews, lol.

Dig this one, Kyle. So glad you’re out here telling these stories from your time in the military!

Gotta’ say, I’m partial to “eat shit, you orange assclown.” Sounds like a title for the as-yet-unwritten oral history.

Just saw this and I absolutely love it. Kind of reminds me that this writing thing should be fun, and at the same time, can also be a little bit more than just entertainment.

An off-peak hours sub call? I pity the server(s) handling Submittable, lol.
