At the same time I get to lead exciting research collaborations and projects focused on developing our abilities to detect and respond to infectious diseases in a time of conflict, climate change, and overall change.

Even better, shoe leather epidemiology and academic excellence are not mutually exclusive!
Interactions between #Fieldepi and academia can be mutually extremely enriching. I am a field epidemiologist and an Assistant Professor @cser.bsky.social @cam.ac.uk and fellow @downingcollege.bsky.social.

Happy #WorldFieldEpidemiologyDay #WFED2025! Field epi remains one of the most rewarding and challenging (in a good way) careers I can think of.
Field epidemiologists provide the evidence necessary for action, field epidemiology is the backbone of responding to a public health emergency.

If you are at #PandemicSciences2025 and interested in the impact of endemic and neglected tropical diseases on epidemic and pandemic early detection, check out my poster (no 11) showcasing our work on yellow fever and also see our paper on malaria both in a context of pandemic early detection.

Why is September 7 #WorldFieldEpidemiologyDay?

On Sep 7 1854, John Snow’s now-famous investigation of the Broad Street cholera outbreak led to the removal of the handle of the offending water pump

#FETP fellows & alumni are the #diseasedetective s of today

This Thursday is #WorldFieldEpidemiologyDay

All pandemics begin as local outbreaks. Field epidemiologists are uniquely equipped with the skills for early detection and control of these diseases locally and after they become pandemics.
