Education and outreach continue across St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Our Education Specialist, Lystra Culzac, led a seabird field trip with the Mount Moriah Seventh Day Adventist Pathfinders Club and shared EPIC’s newly introduced Seabird Curriculum.

Puerto Rico hosts three of the brightest bioluminescent bays on Earth thanks to dense populations of Pyrodinium bahamense. These dinoflagellates thrive only where mangroves, calm bays, and stable salinity create perfect conditions. Protecting these habitats keeps the glow alive.

Montserrat’s Soufrière Hills volcano reshaped the island and altered nearby reefs. Volcanic ash changes water clarity and chemistry, challenging corals to adapt. Scientists study these zones to understand reef resilience and how marine life recovers as new coastlines form.

EPIC’s Education Specialist, Lystra Culzac, partnered with the Science Initiative for Environmental Conservation and Education (SCIENCE) to co-lead a Landbird ID Refresher Training for staff of the Forestry Department. Training was co-facilitated by Lystra & Dr. Joanne Justo Gaymes of SCIENCE.

The West Indian Top Shell is a striking, edible marine snail found across the Caribbean. 🐚 Once heavily harvested, it’s now protected in many places due to population declines. Conservation measures are helping it bounce back! 🌊
