New blog post time!

This week's game is The Adventures of Star Saver, a sequel/reboot of questionable Famicom game Miracle Ropit's Adventure in 2100. It's so rare that unbeloved games get a second chance to build upon ideas like this, so the fact that Star Saver exists at all is to be celebrated:

The Adventures of Star Saver is, in a lot of ways, the ideal follow-up. It sincerely looks back at Miracle Ropit and removes its worst tendencies without compromising on the things that made it int…

Rule of Rose has multiple unlockable costumes, but my favorites are the octopus + crab combo and the one that turns the dog Brown into a chair for some reason

I looked up a map for Rule of Rose since I'm finding it confusing to navigate, and while I appreciate the effort that was clearly put into making this one, I think I'm just as overwhelmed as I was before

Rule of Rose has been fascinating so far because it has such good atmosphere but makes you spend most of your time following a dog through identical looking hallways

It also becomes really funny to me when the little imps try to jump at you only to miss and hit the ground with a cartoonish thud

They called this little guy Bonk because that's what he does.
Re-release this: Bonk's Adventure (GB)
A portable Bonk with the same name as a different, non-portable Bonk.

For #RandomGameSaturday, I have Treasure Master, the game where the totally radical protagonist has The World's Funniest Strut. This one is known for its soundtrack and association with an MTV contest. Part of me would have liked to try my hand at winning, but the game's what I'd call a huge pain!

This week's game is Lutter, an ambitious Famicom Disk System exclusive that combines the bump combat of Hydlide, level design that resembles Lode Runner, and the puzzle solving + inventory management of The Castle. It sounds ridiculous, but it really does work!

Obscusion B-Side #100!!!
The Short (But Memorable) Life of Fresh Games

For this milestone edition of Obscusion B-Side I take a look back at the label Eidos created for "Quirky" or "Odd" games in 2002... which Eidos then pretty much killed later that same year, minus one "Final" game in 2004.

While it's not necessarily as readily provable today, especially since the sheer amount of "indie" games has diluted that feeling to a large...

Apparently a lot of people online think games aren't as fun anymore, but that could not be farther from the truth. There's more great games than ever now, so where is this coming from? As always, the culprit is capitalism.
