Joey shoved his way through the festival. A wisp of air circled his head then wafted into his ear. “J-o-e-y”, it drawled. He felt hands in all his pockets. Then nothing. Wallet, keys, phone, OK. An envelope? That was new. Five one hundred dollar bills and a ticket to LA. His mom would be thrilled.

Beautiful and powerful!

I love this type of story. I imagine it’s incredible difficult to construct and write so I admire authors who can bring both the book’s story and main characters story together in the end for an amazing conclusion! Thanks for sharing this recommendation.

No one talks about this important point! It is an element missing from so many mysteries. Thanks for sharing.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, this one is worth one million! Beautiful! A thousand different stories are running through my head looking at this.

Love this. It depends on the book! I'm usually really careful on my first read, but if I read it over and over, and you describe this perfectly, it starts to mold into my hands!

It's nothing like I experienced as a kid, but for some reason it really resonated with me. It's been probably 30-40 years since I've read it. Just writing about it now makes me want to read it again (and refresh my memory). Thanks for asking! Haven't heard of The Forgotten Door. I'll check it out!

It's about a boy and his sitter who go to a new babysitter over the summer. She's a free spirit (probably would have been called a hippy back when the book was written). She helps him overcome some issues. She ends up losing part of her leg so he helps her overcome her new difficulty.
