If you’re considering doing any clean up yourself, please follow the homeowner removal advice on the Asbestos Victoria website: asbestos.vic.gov.au/in-the-home/find-manage-remove-dispose/homeowner-removal

We strongly recommend using a licensed asbestos removalist.

Using trained professionals is the safest option. They know how to remove and dispose of asbestos safely, without putting you, your family or neighbours at risk.

We recommend you do not inspect the fire-damaged rubble and ash.

If you do stay safe:
🔷 avoid handling burnt building materials where possible
🔷 keep rubble wet to reduce dust
🔷 wear personal protective equipment

@tfyoung.bsky.social I got a response from the team.

We are going to issue a notice. This means they need to use someone qualified to clean up the fire water. And we will investigate the cause of the fire and any breaches of the law.

We attended to assist with Fire Rescue Victoria. I’ll ask the team to provide updates on what they find.

The good news is the fire is under control with Melbourne water onsite to manage the waterway.

🏠Seal up your home
Check for gaps around doors and windows. Seal them where you can. If you can’t, use wet towels to cover gaps when smoke is outside.

💦Avoid evaporative coolers
Evaporative coolers pull outside air into the house.

💨 use your HEPA air purifier if you have one
💨 avoid burning candles, incense, and smoking.
💨 wear a P2/N95 mask if you must go outside
💨 if it is safe consider going to a place with cleaner air and air-con (like a library or shopping centre).
💨 bring your pets and their bedding inside

Can you see or smell smoke, and you are not in a warning zone? Smoke can travel a long way from fires and affect your health. Heres what you can do:
💨 minimise time outside
💨 skip hard exercise if you’re coughing or short of breath.
💨 close windows and doors
💨 set your air-con to recirculate.

We asked around... Sadly no size exemptions apply. Total Fire Ban really is inclusive of all sizes.
