You are mistaken.
Nuclear power offers:
* least resource intensive, i.e. smallest land & materials per kWh.
* among lowest deaths per kWh.
* fastest grid decarb ever (see France).
* cheap, 0-emission, on-demand power when all compared (incl. waste!).

France built over 50 nuclear reactors in about 10 years back in the 1980s. Note all build times <10 years.
Q: What changed?
A: Anti-nuclear "greens" imposed regulation from the 1990s onwards (such as LNT theory) that hugely increased construction costs. Result: much more fossil fuels consumed.

Nuclear energy and its supply chain (ore to waste) has lowest impact on environment per unit of electricity produced.
BTW guardian article “uranium rocks”, is then described by headline writers as ‘uranium’. Sigh.

But how would those bad people carry out this terrible deed?
The waste is in tough looking steel & concrete containers on-site that looks like this:

I would be very pleased to have the "nuclear waste" here.
You can keep the brown coal waste.

Unfortunately, Italy doesn’t have nuclear power plants. I believe the profile is something like this:
