I ended up finishing that article before leaving and it got published earlier today.

I disagree `git checkout` "is a complete and total disaster". It's common for things to seem scary when you don't fully understand them. Doesn't mean it's inherently bad. Checkout has a coherent purpose to me. At any rate, teach people the workflow you use. Let them decide if it's for them.
