Thankfully, the correct pin will have a larger "head" to grab with tweezers while spreading each of the legs with another set. Still fiddly though and not malleable brass like the original that's missing.

I should have considered that the vendor might be sloppy with the product listings. Yes, they are a type of pin, but if the split runs through the loop, it does me no good... and is it still a cotter pin?? An alternate product has been ordered and I'm feeling slightly wiser.

If you are motivated by external admiration, then yes. I have loved the mechanics of using them since I was in junior high decades ago, and the opinion of others or fashion aesthetic never factored into it. I just love how they feel and write!

I don't think fountain pens are quite there on the hipster front. What did you get?
