We are excited to roll out a new t-shirt this year. We are working with a local artist to produce a new design. The new shirts and other new merch will be available for purchase at this years ESBC meeting.
A new entomological society of British Columbia (ESBC) t-shirt design. The design features a adult dragonfly perched on cattail, and below the water a dragonfly nymph perches on the same cattail. Watching from behind a rock is a giant waterbug.

Malcolm Knapp Research Forest Insect BioBlitz The Entomological Society of British Columbia and the University of British Columbia’s Malcolm Knapp Research Forest invite you to participate in an Insect BioBlitz event Where: Malcolm Knapp Research Forest, Maple Ridge, British Columbia. See map below for the designated survey area. Parking is available at the main entrance to the Research Forest. Directions are available at: https://www.mkrf.forestry.ubc.ca/about/directions/ When: 9 AM–6 PM on Saturday July 5th and Sunday July 6th, 2025. Observers may participate for any amount of time during the event hours. How: Participants join the Malcolm Knapp Research Forest Insect BioBlitz iNaturalist project at: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/malcolm-knapp- research-forest-insect-bioblitz and upload observations of insects and other arthropods. Observations can include photographs and sound recordings, and documentation of collected specimens (depending upon individual knowledge and capacity). Join the Bumble Bee Project on April 8th from 12 - 1 pm to hear about project and other exciting results and how you can join Team Bee for one day of surveys, learn about bees and their threats, and help survey bumble bees during the summer of 2025. entsocbc.ca/bcs-communit...
Join Us Online! April 8, 2025 12 - 1 pm PST. There are approximately 37-39 bumble bee species in British Columbia, and most are wide-ranging and live in a variety of habitats across the vast provincial landscape. This project aims to collect quantitative data that can be used to assess the conservation status of all bumble bees in the province. Data collection involves establishing long term (> 10 years) bumble bee monitoring routes throughout the province, and concurrently build a community of trained volunteers who, once per year, would survey these routes within the areas they live and work. In 2022, 2023, & 2024 we asked government staff to participate in this community bumble bee monitoring project. Join us to hear about these and other exciting results and how you can join Team Bee for one day of surveys, learn about bees and their threats, and help survey bumble bees during the summer of 2025.
