We haven't compared it directly, although generally OpenAI's embeddings seem to trail the better open models, so I expect it would be an improvement.

This has been one of the biggest problems with enterprise level API embeddings from the big 2 or 3.

A multilingual version is probably a matter of further fine tuning using an existing model or translation datasets with a vae for guidance.
