The pop socket allows me to hold the iPad and rest my arm instead of "actively" holding it or trying to grasp the edge and not accidentally tap things. I also use a glove on my drawing hand. Once I lost it and I could not deal with how much I tapped things. It would undo strokes constantly.

I have an iPad Air 4 with an Apple Pencil 2. I haven't had an issue at all with screen size, but I'm used to my phone so it's definitely bigger than that. Procreate is so worth it and only $13 for life. The primary issue I had was holding it comfortably, but I solved that with a pop socket.

Btw I'm using watercolor pencils, which is why I call it a painting. You draw/color on the paper dry and then brush it with water. Some of the pigments do not dissolve well and look really grainy.

With regular watercolors, graininess is a feature, but I'm not sure if pencils have that attribute.
