Another excuse to post this double bill from a few years back, in case anyone still doesn't know exactly where Carmack's values lie..

It's super easy when all you glance and see Mario Kart on rails, then spend zero time engaging with what the game actually *is.* The early 2000's magazine deadlines found an easy sacrifice in Kirby..

This review is wild reading nowadays, not just for the "humour." It's what convinced teenage me I didn't need to buy Kirby Air Ride for £12.99, shortly before watching the price increase to £80, then £140, then god knows where it is now. Regrets were had.

I wish it wasn't true I genuinely don't feel enthusiastic for playing the game when I see this. I never got around to Bakeru or Cadence of Hyrule either thanks to this curse

I didn't think I could have a worse experience than teenage me going into Tyrant unprepared, but 20 years later the whole game has aged pretty poorly. When you grow out of Wesker matrix fights, there's little left to make all the backtracking and constant poison bug corridors worth the effort

When I replayed this recently it only took around ten hours to complete but for some reason felt twice as long as it needed to be. I was getting so tired by the end, both locations managed to outstay their welcome by an hour or two..

The Japanese version was called Luigi Mangione, the 's was added later for the international release

Hasn't everyone realized at some point that a person you thought for years was your uncle was actually just some guy your dad used to play in a band with...

Will take any opportunity to get angry about how my word processor replaced spell check with a useless AI word guesser, then gated all AI tools behind a paywall. Didn't even leave the classic, decades old check behind. Just a basic feature gone

half a decent idea for a movie I had, with a promise I accidentally made to my kid?"

After being irritated by him on every destructoid post, forgetting about him, seeing him resurface with an inexplicably large twitter following years later, and now everyone realizing he's the same total jebend from back then, it feels like a 15 year story arc is finally closing

Did a double take when I first saw he has a huge following, because I only remember him as the most irritating little Nintendo fanboy on destructoid back in the day. Always angry, always misunderstanding people, always starting fights wherever he could

The controversial one I think people tend to like: Demon Turf. Irritating controls and irritating attitude, generally an infuriating platformer I couldn't quit

The one I think people unanimously think is rancid: Little Hope. Not even Will Poulter could save that game

How can someone be old enough to have bought a GameCube but never heard the phrase killer app???

I'd like to say they get better, but I've just come off 40 regrettable hours of Tales of Graces and your post *exactly* describes that game too..

Saw a post saying Jimmy Kimmel always seemed like a dead inside husk of a man, and stopped to wonder how many people making comments out there know the difference

Reminds me of not buying F-Zero Climax in 2015 for ¥4000 because it was too much for a GBA game. Three years later in the same store it was ¥22000..

This one from Link's Awakening has been rattling in my mind since my age was single digits! Maybe it's that carefree feeling of being a kid, and the lack of responsibility that comes with it kept it in my mind

I had the Link on Epona figure, I remember it was very low quality plastic and Link's hair kept falling off! I don't think I ever saw the other transformations in stores though, game toys were rarer than gold dust back then..

One of those games I didn't think much of when I first played it (it was too different, I was 17!), but when I look back I really do think it's the best FF. Something about how the world connects together, how every environment is so diverse makes it feel like a real journey
August 31, 2025 at 11:02 PM
Yeah I was just thinking the same thing, I can't imagine a world where they'd make an entirely different game for different hardware only as a bonus. Definitely feels like a decision so far removed from the industry today

That was the first Nights that I played. They didn't have to put those GBA mini-games in Billy Hatcher but they did anyway, forever grateful for weird cool extras like this!
