as mastodon is actually distributed, one has to choose which instance to join. yes, this seems to present a confusing barrier to entry. i prefer mastodon’s funky diverse culture, and am sick of silicon valley slick. i try to learn from being mildly uncomfortable as a cis old white male.

our family has words/phrases in daily use which were invented by three year olds fifty years ago. three year olds have talent in apt phrases/words. e.g. "weeper sweepers" for windshield wipers, "diggy dumps" for heavy construction equipment.
