And if you can't do your art without stealing chunks of James Brown, and you don't want to pay James Brown, then find some other art to do."

Pulled out my old vinyl copy of Frank Zappa's You Are What You Is today. I have never seen any other album have this draconian of a copyright notice in it.

The 90s was a time when music writing was thriving enough to sustain a magazine specifically about The Moody Blues, featuring a five-page article about how to use the internet to connect with other Moody Blues fans.

I'm curious why it is that most AI art is *instantly recognizable* as AI art. Like what's going on that the moment I see the new Ras Kass album cover, without looking at any of the fine details, I know unambiguously that it's AI and not just a bad illustration?

I am possibly the only person alive who enjoys hearing about other people’s experiences doing drugs, so much so that I once spent a lot of time going on long walks and listening to a niche podcast in which two men regaled each other with various substance stories. The single most memorable anecdote was one of the hosts describing doing a large amount of ketamine, putting In Rainbows From the Basement on his television, and locking into the concert film so hard that he sincerely believed Radiohead was inside his house, performing the songs just for him. Picture this: It’s been a long day at the beach, your skin is cooked, and it occurs to you that the edible you took must have been about 30 mg stronger than what it said on the package. An emergency is setting in—you need Cheetos. Stumbling sketchily into the minimart down the road, you notice that the store radio is sounding strange. The signal is all garbled, and it keeps switching between doo-wop, reggae, and some fucked-up version of Santana’s Abraxas. What year is it, anyway? Ah, that’s right, now you get it—this must be from the new Mondo Lava.
